Sunday liquor sales not everyone’s cup of cheer

Yesterday, Colorado joined 34 other states in seven-day-a-week liquor sales, but some liquor store owners are opting out of Sunday liquor sale in favor of a day off for employees, as The Denver Post reports.

The liquor lobby dropped its opposition to repealing the state’s blue law in hopes of preventing large grocery store chains from selling alcohol stronger than the 3.2 percent beer they’re currently limited to selling, thus protecting the liquor stores’ monopoly on the hard stuff.

Although Sunday drinkers may be pleased, small family-owned liquor stores that chose to stay closed one day of the week may see their overall sales fall as larger stores with more staff collect Sunday revenue.
