New poll brings bad news for Trump, Palin, other potential 2012...

Last week, a Rasmussen poll showed that Donald Trump was riding the birther conspiracy theory wave in becoming the Republican Party’s unlikely frontrunner for the 2012 presidential nomination. But a new survey seems to indicate that the 19-percent support Trump has among likely Republican primary voters is just about the full extent of the reality star’s backing among the general population.

Anti-abortion rights marketing group Heroic Media is expanding domestically and internationally, officials said Saturday during an “inaugural District of Columbia benefit dinner,” held in Bethesda, Md. – part of an effort to raise money for anti-abortion advertising in the Northeast this spring.

Palin to honor troops in Colorado with Christian military crusader Boykin

The Centennial Institute conservative think tank at Colorado Christian University is hosting a "Tribute to the Troops" Monday, where the featured speakers will be Sarah Palin and General William "Jerry" Boykin. Although both figures in the past have been associated with an aggressive Christian politics known as Dominionism, Boykin is one of the people at the heart of post-9/11 U.S. religious militarism. For years he has been giving talks in which he conjures a Christian America targeted by hundreds of millions of violent Islamic jihadists, rallying support for the most hawkish variety of anti-terror U.S. foreign and domestic policies. If Boykin's past presentations are any measure, attendees at Monday's rally are in for tough talk peppered with statistics that sound official and scary but that fail to stand up to the kind of mathematical fact checking you can do in your head as you listen to him speak.

Right-wing Kochs launch new attack on hobbled journalism

As the journalism industry limps along and public broadcasting comes under attack, the Koch brothers-- multimillionaire conservative-politics string-pullers-- have taken aim at the Center for Public Integrity, a twenty-year-old nonprofit investigative organization dedicated to making institutional power more transparent. The Center this month posted an influential piece on Koch lobbying activities to which Koch has responded with a targeted campaign of online ads that seek to discredit the Center's work. It's just the latest phase in the digital-era media war that has dealt repeated blows to unprepared pillars of professional journalism.

Taking a beating on budget compromise, Boehner turns up heat on...

Conservative celebrity Sarah Palin and right-wing blogger Erick Erickson are just two of the high profile far-right leaders disparaging Speaker of the House John Boehner for the budget deal he hammered out with President Obama and Democratic Senate leaders last week. Colorado "liberty movement" talk radio hosts are unhappy. Colorado Tea Party freshmen Congressmen Scott Tipton and Cory Gardner as well as Colorado Springs conservative Doug Lamborn broke with the Speaker and voted against the budget. But Boehner can't go back on the deal and he won't likely win over the Tiptons and Palins and Ericksons with a lecture on the delayed gratification of budget cutting and the difference between outlays and spending. On the contrary, it would just make him seem more establishment. So instead, Boehner followed the lead of GOP presidential hopefuls and took a provocative and distracting stand against gay rights.
