Proposed Pueblo solar plant generates buzz, barbs

News this week that Colorado could one day be home to the nation’s largest concentrated solar power plant — a facility of at least 200 megawatts near Pueblo — comes as welcome news to an energy sector faltering right along with the rest of the economy. But some critics say continuing to artificially mandate renewable energy simply drives up the price of coal- and gas-generated electricity, which still provides the vast majority of power in Colorado.

McInnis read ‘tribute’ to Bartleson into Congressional Record in 2003

Child sex assault suspect Jeffrey Claude Bartleson, the former manager of Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign office in Pueblo, was praised in the Congressional Record in 2003 by former Rep. Scott McInnis, who represented Pueblo before leaving the House of Representatives in 2004. On a page filled with tributes to constituents -- a common practice for any member of Congress -- McInnis salutes Bartleson's work as a foster parent and his role founding the Interfaith Hospitality Network, "one of Pueblo's newest self-help organizations."

Pueblo manager for McCain campaign arrested on molestation charges

Police arrested the former manager of Sen. John McCain's Pueblo presidential campaign office Wednesday on charges he sexually assaulted a 5-year-old boy left in his care so the boy's mother could attend a rally for McCain's running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, The Denver Post's Howard Pankratz reported Thursday afternoon.

Dean of statehouse press corps Ashby laid off by Pueblo Chieftain

The number of reporters covering the Colorado Capitol continues to drop as Charles Ashby, Denver bureau chief for The Pueblo Chieftain, received word Tuesday that he would be laid off. Ashby will continue reporting from the statehouse through the legislative session, Chieftain managing editor Steve Henson told the Colorado Independent on Tuesday afternoon. He has covered the Capitol for the Chieftain since 2005 and was the Durango Herald's state legislative reporter for seven sessions before that.
