Just days after American Forces launched a targeted assault that killed Osama Bin Laden, Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet asked nominees for counterterrorism posts in the Obama Administration how Bin Laden’s death would affect the flow of financing to terrorist groups like Al Qaeda and how terrorist network overlap might complicate U.S. efforts to squeeze terrorist fundraising capacity.

Calling Osama bin Laden a “truly evil man,” Rep. Keith Ellison commended the U.S. military, American intelligence officers and President Obama for the raid yesterday that killed the al Qaeda leader. Meanwhile, Muslim groups also applauded the military raid.

Democratic leaders of the Colorado General Assembly and Gov. John Hickenlooper released statements today praising President Barack Obama and members of the armed forces who orchestrated and performed the military operation that resulted in the death of Osama bin Laden.

Republican Colorado Congressman Mike Coffman, a U.S. Marine veteran who twice served in Iraq, issued the following statement on the death of 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden in Pakistan early Monday morning. Coffman serves on the House Armed Services Committee. “This will bring closure to the attack on 9/11 but it will have nothing to do with ending the global war on terror. After 9/11, U.S. efforts to target the leadership of al Qaeda caused Osama bin Laden to keep his head down causing him to lose operational control of al Qaeda ending his ability to initiate attacks against the United States."

From Senator Michael Bennet: “Almost 10 years ago, extremist terrorists launched a vicious attack on our country that killed thousands of innocent men, women and children. Tonight, the families affected by this tragedy and all Americans received the welcome news that the architect of this attack was killed thanks to the competent and courageous efforts of American forces. While this development does not mark the end of our efforts, the death of Osama bin Laden does mark very significant milestone in our fight against Al Qaeda and violent extremism across the globe.”

Colorado Sen. Mark Udall, who serves on key Senate intelligence and armed forces committees, issued the following statement on Sunday night’s announcement by President Barack Obama that U.S. special forces killed 9/11 mastermind Osama Bin Laden: “Thousands of American men and women have fought and died to defeat the terrorists led by Osama bin Laden who attacked our nation on September 11, 2001. The death of bin Laden is a major milestone in U.S. efforts to eradicate terrorism and keep our homeland safe."

ALBUQUERQUE-- Searching to describe his Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) symptoms, Joseph Callan paused, his gaze momentarily distant.

“I see dead people,” he said, scoffing. “In crowds, I’ll think, ‘that’s Howzer!’ or somebody else,” the former U.S. Marine Corps sergeant explained. “I know they’re dead. I saw them dead. But I feel compelled to confirm it’s not them, to see them from another angle. So I’m ducking through a crowd to get another look at them and it’s always just some random (person).”

I just got off a conference call held by the McCain campaign to deny that Al Qaeda, contrary to reports in the AP and the Washington Post, is rooting for their man. To describe the call as panicked would be an understatement.
