Lieberman retains committee chair with Salazar’s backing
Sen. Joe Lieberman kept a key committee gavel but won the rebuke of his colleagues for campaigning against Sen. Barack Obama in a deal brokered Tuesday morning by Colorado Sen. Ken Salazar and a handful of other Democratic senators. "It's time to unite our country," Salazar said after Senate Democrats voted 42-13 to allow the Connecticut independent, who caucuses with the Democrats, to continue as Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee chairman.
Reid to Lieberman: No lunch seat for you!
I love getting "Breaking News" alerts from Roll Call. Invariably they contain nothing at all of immediate importance, at least from the perspective of a guy who no longer works on the Hill. Do people in DC really need to know this stuff RIGHT NOW? According to an alert I just received, Majority Leader Harry Reid has decided that Senator Joe Lieberman "can no longer attend Democrats’ weekly caucus lunches or the biweekly chairmen’s lunches used to formulate policy." Well duh.

We did this to Joe Lieberman
Four years ago in Boston I staffed Joe Lieberman backstage at the Democratic National Convention. Unfortunately, last night some Republican did. I believed then and still believe today that Lieberman is a good man, and I respect him for doing what he felt was right regardless of the political consequences. He’s dead wrong about John McCain and Barack Obama, but I put the blame squarely on the shoulders of left-wing Democrats for Lieberman’s decision to speak at this year’s Republican convention.

RNC mixed messaging
The ideals of "country first," and "service" won lavish praise at the Republican National Convention last night. The realities of the Republican party and President George W. Bush got rather less respect.
Joe Lieberman’s long journey to the RNC
It’s been a long road to Minnesota for Joe Lieberman.
Eight years ago he was the number two on Al Gore’s ticket against President George Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. At the time, he stood before the Democratic National Convention and made a rousing acceptance speech that promoted the progressive agenda: better health care, campaign finance reform, a stronger public education system. He invoked the memory of Jack Kennedy while energizing Democrats to stand up and support their party, his party.
