They passed the bill and then came the uproar. Republican senators called on Gov. Jan Brewer to veto it. Business leaders came out against it. The Super Bowl committee came out against it.

The University of Phoenix plans to roll out more than 100 new partnerships with community colleges in the coming year – a strategy that, if successful, will provide a much-needed financial and reputational boost to the nation’s largest for-profit school.

At least 257 for-profit higher education institutions--including several with Colorado operations--receive more than 85 percent of their income from federal student aid. That figure, however, does not include military aid and benefits paid to individuals going to school on GI Bill benefits.
