Polis ‘thrilled’ by Iowa court decision legalizing same-sex marriage

U.S. Rep. Jared Polis, one of only a handful of openly gay members of Congress, cheered Friday's ruling by the Iowa Supreme Court striking down a ban on same-sex marriage. In a statement to The Colorado Independent, the Boulder Democrat said:
"I am thrilled by today's unanimous ruling on same-sex marriage by the Iowa Supreme Court. If it can happen in Iowa, it can happen anywhere. Hopefully, this is just the beginning of more progress to come."

Iowa court throws out same-sex marriage ban, lets gay couples wed

In a unanimous ruling issued Friday morning, the Iowa Supreme Court struck down a state law restricting marriage to opposite-sex couples, saying the law violates the state constitution's equal protection clause. The court ordered the state to begin "allowing gay and lesbian people full access to the institution of civil marriage," becoming the fourth state to legalize same-sex marriage.
