Musgrave sees fundraising boost in final week of election

After failing to out raise her Democratic opponent throughout most of the last six months, Republican Rep. Marilyn Musgrave's fundraising has hit overdrive in the final week of the election.

Congressional heavyweights pump Markey’s campaign coffers

House Democratic leaders have been working hard on behalf of Democratic challengers, showering them with money and personal attention to expand their majority and to curry favor with future colleagues. In Colorado, Democrats are working hard to help Democrat Betsy Markey defeat U.S. Rep. Marilyn Musgrave, R-Colo., perhaps best known outside the state as a prominent proponent of a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.

Finishing strong: The final 96 hours with Musgrave, Markey

For political races running neck in neck, the final 96 hours of a campaign can be some of the most important. Although it may be hard for the political diehards to believe, polling soundly shows that 5-10 percent of the electorate only begin to pay attention to the election, the candidates and the issues in the final week of the election. Although media and politicos think everyone has been kept up to date throughout the cycle, political experts say those voters who are late to the party can make a difference in races that are on the margin in the final week.

Results of lawsuits in CD4 delayed until after election

In what could be good news for at least one of the candidates in Colorado's 4th Congressional District, the results of dueling lawsuits filed by both campaigns against the other for lying in their TV spots will not come out until after Nov. 4, according to a story in Wednesday's Loveland Reporter-Herald. "I’ve tried to not let the election date be a determining factor," 8th Judicial District Attorney Larry Abrahamson said of the timing.

Musgrave’s made-for-TV political conversion a drama for CD 4 voters

If Rep. Marilyn Musgrave were in a reality television program — call it “Project Politics” — the economy and bipartisan cooperation would be in, divisive social policies would be out.

Defenders of Wildlife called out by GOP for attack ads

After spending more than $1.5 million this election cycle to unseat Republican Rep. Marilyn Musgrave as as well other ad campaigns against Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, a group of GOP senators said The Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund (DOW) is abusing its tax-exempt status as a nonprofit.

Markey’s October fund raising kicks into high gear

Democrat Betsy Markey outraised her Republican opponent, Rep. Marilyn Musgrave, by a 2-1 margin during the first two weeks of October, according to campaign finance filings both campaigns filed with the FEC on Thursday. Markey, a Fort Collins resident, raised an average of $25,546 per day between Oct. 1 and Oct. 15, far outpacing Musgrave, who collected $10,001 per day during the same period. Both women are hoping to represent the 4th Congressional District in Colorado next year.

Breaking news: NRCC pulls out of 4th CD

In a surprise move, National Republican Congressional Committee canceled its TV advertising buy in the 4th Congressional District for the last week of the election on Wednesday in what some experts say is clear sign Republican incumbent Rep. Marilyn Musgrave's re-election bid for a fourth term is at risk. It could also mean that Musgrave's challenger Betsy Markey could become the first Democrat elected to the 4th CD in decades.

LiveBlog: Musgrave/Markey final debate

Tonight the candidates in the 4th CD are having their final debate at Windsor High School in Windsor, Colo. The Colorado Independent is LiveBlogging the debate:

Musgrave says no to fire-breathing non-liberals — and to free TV

Dear Marilyn Musgrave: I am not a liberal. I am also not a “Democratic consultant.” When your spokesman called me that, my wife and all my friends laughed so hard it sounded like they were howling. And you know what? Your resulting decision to not come on TV and be interviewed, as your opponent Betsy Markey agreed to do, did nothing more than strip you of the opportunity to get a half-hour of free air time. Sincerely, Eric Sondermann.
