For some of us at The Colorado Independent, the late Molly Ivins was both a habit and an inspiration. We use to read her political columns first chance we could in the morning, and sometimes would still be chuckling about them well into the evening. If you knew her work, you know what we mean. If you didn’t, we invite you to a film about the badass media firebrand and civil rights warrior who took on Good Old Boy corruption wherever she found it.

Please join us at Sie FilmCenter for the film at 7 p.m. Thursday Aug. 8th, followed by a reception and conversation at 8:30 with our editors Susan Greene and Tina Griego. They’ll be discussing politics, media and civil rights in Colorado, as well as Ivins’ warning, before her death in 2007, that “Polarizing people is a good way to win an election and a good way to wreck a country.”

The Colorado Independent is a statewide online news source operating in a time when spin is plentiful, but factual, fair and unflinching news in the public interest is all too rare. Our award-winning team of veteran investigative and explanatory reporters and news columnists aims to amplify the voices of Coloradans whose stories are unheard, shine light on the relationships between people, power and policy, and hold public officials to account. We strive to report the news with context, social conscience, and soul, and to give Coloradans the insight they need to promote conversation, understanding and progress in this square, swing state we call home.
