Denver Open Media launches All-Local Radio on new FM signals.
Listener-scheduled Radio Station to launch on 92.9FM and 89.3HD3 with free event at 700 Kalamath St, 7pm on June 7th, 2019.
Coming June 7th, fans of local music will have two new signals on their FM dial dedicated entirely to Colorado-based artists. The new stations will officially launch June 7th with a free launch party featuring Denver musician Wellington Bullings and more. The party takes place at 700 Kalamath St in the heart of the Santa Fe Arts District as part of the First Friday art-walk. Guests will be treated to tours of the stations studios and invited to guest-DJ from the reception desk which doubles as a recording studio and DJ station.Denver Open Media (Former operators of Denver’s Public Access Cable TV stations) is a partnership between the Open Media Foundation, KUVO, and Denhac and was made possible due to an exchange of OMF’s previous 104.7Low-Power FM station for 92.9FM and a 10-year agreement with KUVO and RMPBS to operate 89.3HD3. These new signals expand the reach of the all-local radio station from Colorado Springs to Fort Collins. In addition to the singular focus on content from Denver & Colorado, these new stations are scheduled in a revolutionary new way. “Anyone can submit a song or show and it will be shared on the denveropenmedia.org website. There, the audience can vote 1-5 stars for anything they hear, and those votes are automatically translated into a scheduling algorithm that puts the listeners in control. “Denver’s creative scene deserves a station dedicated to local artists” said Tony Shawcross, Director of the Open Media Foundation, “and our audience deserves to decide what they want to hear.” Shawcross added.“It’ll be a unique launch event, befitting a unique new station. We’re excited to be a part of it,” said Tina Cartagena, Senior Vice President of Radio for KUVO.
