Colorado’s newest U.S. Senator, Republican Cory Gardner, has a joke about Hillary Clinton and Colorado’s Supermax prison. He’s told it at least once on the presidential campaign trail, stumping for Florida Sen. Marco Rubio.
As a fresh-faced conservative on the rise in his party, Gardner has been introducing himself to audiences in early primary states where attendees might not know much about the young pol from Yuma, Colorado.
So he has an ice breaker.
“I introduce myself most of the time by saying, ‘Hi, I’m Cory Gardner from the great state of Colorado, home of the Rocky Mountains — and Hillary Clinton’s private email server,” he told an audience at a restaurant in South Carolina recently, adding that perhaps that’s what his state is known for.
Reports that Clinton used a Denver-based information technology company called Platte River Networks surfaced last year. The company has said it never stored data relating to the Clintons in Denver. ” Because we use industry best practices, we had (Clinton’s) server moved to a data center in New Jersey,” a spokesperson told The Denver Post last summer.
Anyway… that wasn’t Gardner’s biggest Palmetto State punchline.
The U.S. Senator from Colorado continued:
“You know, they’re trying to move Guantanamo Bay detainees to Colorado where we have a Supermax prison, and I said, ‘You know what, with what’s happening I don’t want to keep them in Supermax, because we need to make room for Hillary.'”
The extent to which Clinton stored official information on private email servers has remained a consistent controversy throughout her presidential campaign. Republicans and Democrats have weighed in on whether or not it makes her unfit for the presidency.
Colorado’s own Gov. John Hickenlooper, a Democrat and full-throated Clinton supporter, made headlines last year when he expressed doubt about her amid the scandal. The Clinton campaign has a webpage dedicated to the controversy.
A representative of Clinton’s Colorado campaign said she’d get back to us about the remark, but hadn’t by the time this story was posted. A Gardner spokesperson did not immediately respond to an e-mail. We’ll update this post if we hear back from either of them.

Not funny.
Gardner is a signee of neohawk Tom Cotton’s factually incorrect letter to Iran during the negoations- a serious violation of diplomatic protocol and relations with the Presidency- a liar about sponsoring a personhood amendment (still under consideration), and is obstructing Colorado judicial nominations desperately needed in our state- among other actions.
He lied during his campaign, and he had the most dark money (87%) funding his run. He, along with the majority of Congressional Republicans, have done everthing they could to obstruct the Obama administration… and that’s all they’ve done, except pass more tax cuts for corporations and the very welathy.
If anyone should be considered unAmerican, or borderline treasonous, it’s Gardner, not Clinton.
