News-lovers dig through unbelievable stories deciphering the real from the baloney. We wish most of the oddball stories we read were gags. They rarely are. But hey, it’s April Fools Day, so we thought we’d put your news knowledge to the test.
Can you determine which of the following Colorado-penned stories is a gag? If so, kudos. You’re either paying attention to what’s going on or you have unbelievable intuition, because each of these stories is embarrassingly weird.
1) Cursed Nation
Colorado Springs Republican lawmaker Gordon Klingenschmitt has an alter ego – a web-based televangelist named Dr. Chaps who stars in a show called “Pray in Jesus’ Name.” Stumping in his doomsday-preacher persona, Klingenschmitt said that “God’s curse on America” explains why a pregnant Longmont woman had her fetus cut out.
2) Smooth Moves
Colorado’s esteemed Gov. John Hickenlooper is known for his success in the brewing industry. Lately, he’s been brewing up a new drink – on two wheels. That’s right. Hick road a bicycle-blender to pedal himself a smoothie.
3) Strange joint
Two Boulder men crashed a pickup truck into a marijuana dispensary, made away with a grand total of two plants, fled police in a high-speed chase, ditched their rig and ran through a field before getting arrested.
4) Branded land
Due to budget cuts, government agencies leased 100 million acres of public land to corporations giving them the right to brand directly onto mountainsides. Watch out Rocky Mountain National Park. Via High Country News.
5) Can you smell it?
With a boom in development, Denver has found itself stinking of more than money. The Denver Post reports that the odor of urine has been wafting through downtown. In response, the city is considering installing two public restrooms.
