Wiretap: Conservative JeffCo school board presses vaguely ahead

After hours of discussion at a Jefferson County Board of Education meeting, the conservative board voted 3-2, as expected, to revise procedures for reviewing curriculum. But did it really approve Julie Williams’ proposed review of AP U.S. History? Let’s just say it’s not clear. The Denver Post says that the vote “effectively scuttled” Williams’ plan to make the curriculum more patriotic and to avoid encouragement of “civil disorder, social strife or disregard of the law.” Her proposal led, of course, to teacher sick-outs, student walk-outs and national ridicule. The Associated Press reports that Jeffco board president Ken Witt said he expected the AP course to be reviewed. Students and parents say to expect more protests.
