Barbara Kirkmeyer and Steve Laffey are on the ballot in the race to succeed U.S. Rep. Cory Gardner in the 4th Congressional District.
The Secretary of State’s office certified signatures for the two Friday afternoon. The primary is June 24.
They join state Sen. Scott Renfroe and and Weld County District Attorney on the 4th CD ballot. Renfroe and Weld were nominated in the 4th CD assembly on April 11. Kirkymeyer was nominated but withdrew her nomination at the end of her speech, saying she was confident her signatures would qualify her for the ballot.
The Secretary of State’s office said 1,264 of Kirkmeyer’s 1,600 signatures and 1,077 of Laffey’s 1,990 signatures were valid. Congressional candidates needed 1,000 signatures to make the ballot.
The winner of the four-way primary will face Democrat Vic Meyers in the Nov. 4 general election. But the 4th CD is heavily Republican, encompassing the Eastern Plains from Wyoming to New Mexico.
Gardner — who is serving his second term in the seat — is running for U.S. Senate against incumbent Democrat Sen. Mark Udall.
Steve Laffey is an awesome candidate on many levels. He is a financial expert having spent his professional career at Morgan Keegan in Memphis where he rose to President of the 2000+ employee firm. He was elected to two terms as Mayor of Cranston RI (his home town-pop. 80k) and brought the city back from the brink of bankruptcy to balanced budgets and surpluses. When elected to Congress the people of the 4th District (CO) will come to know him as an awesome family man and a true Reagan conservative who will advocate 24/7 for his constituents and vote as a fiscal conservative on every bill he sees in Congress.
At the end of the day Steve Laffey will be a 100% asset to Colorado and the 4th District in particular.
steve laffey is a criminal who ran and hid from rhode island after having rigged a 2002 election in cranston. he did this by granting local police and firefighter their pensions and safety complexes in exchange for their eliminating the competition by filing false police reports and medical diagnosis through family and friends. It should have been apparent to all as to what he was doing, as this is the same way laffey eliminated his own brothers who he felt jealous of and threatened for attention by. he is a criminal and if the state of Colorado has any sense, they’d lock him in an institution or ship him back to rhode island so he could be the “financial expert” of his cell block in prison where he belongs.
