Today Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced $21,928,181 in grants awarded to community health centers in Colorado. The grants were funded by the Affordable Care Act.
“President Obama’s health care law is making community health centers in Colorado stronger,” said Sebelius in a press release. “For many Americans, community health centers are the major source of care that ranges from prevention to treatment of chronic diseases. This investment will expand our ability to provide high-quality care to millions of people while supporting good paying jobs in communities across the country.”
Funding totaling more than $728 million across the United States will support renovation and construction projects. The awards are part of a series of capital investments that are made available to community health centers through the Affordable Care Act, which provides $9.5 billion to expand services over five years and $1.5 billion to support major construction and renovation projects at community health centers.
In Colorado, organizations receiving funds include:
The Colorado Coalition for the Homeless – $5 million,
Denver Health and Hospital Authority – $5 million,
Plan De Salud Del Valle, of Fort Lupton – $4.7 million, and
Sunrise Community Health, of Evans – $5 million.
Six other organizations split about $2.2 million in grants.
