In advance of Independence Day weekend, the Palins visited the Mall of America in Minnesota to sell books. The 1,500 people who showed up beginning at roughly 5 a.m. were subject to strict rules meant to ensure the safety of the celebrity memoirists and to guarantee sales of Bristol’s book. Award-winning photojournalist Kathy Easthagen, an American Independent News Network contributor, was on the scene. She snapped shots of the event and wrote down the Palin Rules of Engagement & Commerce.
Bristol Palin, who was famously an unwed pregnant teen during the 2008 presidential campaign when Sarah Palin was tapped to run on the GOP ticket with John McCain, has since split with Levi Johnston, the hockey-playing father of her child, appeared on “Dancing with the Stars,” and had her jaw remade so that she has less of a “chubby little baby face.” Her book is called “Not Afraid of Life.”
The rules of engagement at the Mall of America:
1. No overnight waiting. Line up starting at 5 a.m.
2. Wristbands will be distributed starting at 6 a.m. to those who buy Bristol’s book
3. You must have a copy of Bristol’s book to purchase either of Sarah’s books.
4. Each person must be present to get a wristband. They’re not transferable.
5. No belongings or bags allowed on stage for the signing.
6. No memorabilia will be signed; no personalization allowed.
7. No photos on stage; “cameras and cell phones are to be put away once you reach the stage stairs”
8. Stay in line. If you leave to use the bathroom or get food for a short period, someone in your party must stay in line at all times.
9. If you leave for an extended period, you must go to the end of the line.
