A new poll conducted by Quinnipiac University indicates that despite the abundance in the media of birtherism and other anti-Obama sentiment, three out of four Americans like the president personally. The poll shows that 41 percent of Americans like both the president and his policies, 33 percent like the man but not his policies, 19 percent like neither Obama nor his policies and just 1 percent like his policies but not him.
Liberals ages 18-34 were much more likely to like both the president and his policies. Perhaps surprisingly, income made little difference in attitudes toward Obama and his administration.
Yet despite a mostly favorable view of President Obama as a person, more people said he does not deserve re-election than said he does, by a factor of 47 percent to 45 percent. However, that 45 percent is actually the highest number of people who have said Obama deserves re-election since Quinnipiac started this poll in March of last year.
Other findings showed that by a factor of two to one (64 percent in favor, 32 percent opposed), Americans believe taxes should be raised on households making more than $250,000 to help fix the deficit, and that most Americans opposed cutting funding to Planned Parenthood and NPR.
Complete poll results, with additional questions and demographic breakdowns, can be found on the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute’s website.
