Governor-elect John Hickenlooper today appointed Reeves Brown to head the Department of Local Affairs. He named Ellen Golombek director of the Department of Labor and Employment.
Brown is currently executive director of Club 20, a generally conservative political advocacy group representing the interests of 22 Western Colorado counties.
“Reeves Brown cares passionately about good government and he cares passionately about the State of Colorado,” Hickenlooper said in a press release. “His naturally collaborative approach will help set the tenure for our administration.”
“DOLA is the face of state government for many communities in Colorado,” Brown said. “The agency should be the model for delivering effective and efficient services in local communities, and for growing public confidence in government that works.”
Brown, who grew up in Montana, has a degree in agriculture business from Montana State University. Before joining Club 20, he worked at the National Cattlemen’s Association and the Colorado Cattlemen’s Association.
Ellen Golumbek, named to head the Department of Labor and Employment, is currently Colorado director of America Votes.
“Ellen is a proven strategic thinker who has a collaborative work style and extensive experience working with the labor and business communities,” Hickenlooper said.
Before joining America Votes, Golumbeck worked for years as a union executive, becoming the first woman president of the Colorado AFL-CIO in 2000.
She will replace Don Mares, who ran against Hickenlooper for mayor of Denver in 2003.
