The GOP is doing its best to address the concerns of the state’s growing Latino population. Or not at all. State Senator Dave Schultheis, for example, twittered his response to pro-immigration reform rallies held across the state yesterday, and it was as if Lou Dobbs had commandeered the Schultheis blackberry. Working toward reform, the Colorado Springs lawmaker tweeted, was “anti-American” and an “assault on the will of most citizens.”
Schultheis is the same Colorado lawmaker who last session made national news for opposing a bill to require HIV tests for pregnant women because, he said, the disease “stems from sexual promiscuity” and he didn’t think the Legislature should “remove the negative consequences that take place from poor behavior and unacceptable behavior.”
Schultheis’s Twitter account is a virtual promotional arm of the right-wing press. He won the Colorado Independent Tweet of the Week spot recently for displaying the stunning narrowness of his daily web reading, which veered between winger website World Net Daily, Matt Drudge and the Washington Times.
