Don’t criticize U.S. Rep Joe Wilson, R-S.C., the angry guy who screamed out like an unhinged teabagger last night from the floor of the House in the middle of the President’s prime-time address to a joint session of Congress on landmark health-reform legislation. The narrative being leaked is that Wilson has four sons in the military and so he is stressed. That may well be why he shouted his accusation that the Commander in Chief is a liar. That may be why he appeared to be a double-barrel Old South-style hater, dumping on Obama and illegal immigrants simultaneously in his two-second internationally televised fit of pique.
The tension issuing from the fact of his boys’ military service as justification for the outburst is not the official line being offered by Wilson. It just sort of materialized over night.
Wilson’s spokesman did not respond to a question as to whether his sons’ military situations contributed to his emotional outburst.
“I let my emotions get the best of me,” he said in a prepared statement after calls rang out for an apology. He also called White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel to voice his regret, according to reports.
“While I disagree with the president’s statement, my comments were inappropriate and regrettable,” said Wilson, who sits on the armed services and foreign affairs committee.
“I extend sincere apologies to the president for this lack of civility.”
Note to the liberal media: You can’t attack a man with four sons in the military. You can’t call him a liar or an unhinged teabagger or unfit– even if he was yelling redfaced at the president in primetime like a Fox News anchor.
