UPDATE: The governor’s office announced Tuesday afternoon that state Sen. Ken Gordon and Reps. Andrew Romanoff and Bernie Buescher have made the final cut. According to Ritter spokesman Wil Alston, the governor hopes to have a final decision in early January.
Everyone is super excited about who may make the final cut to replace Mike Coffman overseeing elections and business licensing in Colorado. Far be it for us to suggest everyone may want to get a life, other than Ken Gordon, Andrew Romanoff, Bernie Buescher and Rosemary Rodriguez, who appear to be the top contenders for the job.
ColoradoPols and Politicker and the Colorado Statesman and Westword — heck, even we at The Colorado Independent — have been chasing each others’ tails trying to figure out who of the 20 people who applied may make the final cut, which is expected to happen this week.
Will it be Romanoff, the engaging outgoing speaker of the House?
Or Gordon, who lost the formal race for the position in 2006, and who has taken to sending out press releases urging supporters to support him this time around via a completely unofficial ProgressNow poll?
Will it be Rodriguez, eminently qualified and a Hispanic woman but who lives in Denver and isn’t as big a name as the three white men mentioned here?
Or will it be the popular Buescher, who fulfills a geographically diverse component because he lives on the Western Slope and all the other statewide Democratic officeholders are from Denver?
Most importantly, who will embarrass Gov. Bill Ritter the least?
Stay tuned. The answers will be coming shortly — we hope.
