Looks like the economic doldrums have hit just about everybody, including Colorado Springs mega-ministry Focus on the Family. According to the Colorado Springs Gazette, Focus announced plans to layoff or re-assign 46 workers in its distribution department. The latest cuts are the most recent in a string of similar reductions in recent years.
Focus, a purveyor of Christian books, CDs and DVDs, has lost revenue since Wal-Mart and online retailers have cut into its market, said the article. “We are accountable to our donors to spend their money in the most cost-effective and productive manner possible,” Focus Chief Operating Officer Glenn Williams said in a statement acquired by the Gazette. “It is certainly heartbreaking that in this case fulfilling that duty means having to say goodbye to some members of our Focus family, but industry realities really leave us no alternative.”
