Denver public television KBDI Channel 12 plans to air half-hour debates every Monday in September examining measures facing voters in the November election, which will have the longest ballot since Colorado first allowed citizen initiatives.
The debates, part of KBDI’s Colorado Decides 2008 coverage, kick off at 8:00 p.m. Sept. 8 with a look at Amendment 46, the anti-affirmative action measure, and Amendment 48, which would grant “personhood” to fertilized eggs. (View a preview here.)
Political consultant and regular KBDI commentator Eric Sondermann moderates the debates with journalists from CBS4 and the Rocky Mountain News asking questions. The Independence Institute’s Jessica Corry and Colorado Unity’s Carlos Valverde take the pro and con sides in the Amendment 46 debate. “Personhood” sponsor Kristi Burton squares off with Fofi Mendez of Protect Families Protect Choice over Amendment 48.
Catch the Sept. 8 debate with KBDI’s video-on-demand service here, usually available the day after it airs. Check here for future debate topics, which will be announced before each program.
