How closely did Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican choice for vice president, stick to the facts Wednesday night when she spoke at the Republican National Convention?
Well, according to the Associated Press, Palin stretched the truth, just a little.
Is she the first politician to stretch the truth to gain favors with voters? No. In fact, most elected officials do. But, unlike Palin, most officials don’t have their dirty laundry aired on the national political scene.
What effect the exaggerations in Palin’s acclaimed speech will have on voters has yet to be seen. But it is a sad commentary on American politics that most voters expect politicians to stretch the truth and most likely won’t hold it against her too much.
