Politico’s Ben Smith reports Stevie Wonder, not Bruce Springsteen, will play Invesco Field after Barack Obama accepts the Democratic nomination for president Thursday night.
The Detroit Freep confirms favorite son Wonder’s scheduled appearance with the Obama campaign:
“Barack and Michelle Obama are big fans of Motown legend Stevie Wonder, and are honored that he’ll be in Denver to perform on Thursday night,” said Brent Colburn, Obama’s Michigan spokesman.
One of Wonder’s signature songs — “Signed Sealed Delivered” — is played at many of Obama’s campaign events.
CNN’s Political Ticker reports Black Eyed Peas frontman Will.i.am is also scheduled to perform Thursday, backed by John Legend and a gospel choir:
The Emmy-winning “Yes We Can” video that spliced together clips of Barack Obama’s New Hampshire primary night speech and set it to music, will be re-created live on stage at Invesco Field in Denver Thursday night before the Illinois senator accepts the Democratic presidential nomination there.
Sheryl Crow is also on the bill. Former American Idol contestant and Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson will perform the national anthem.
