The most dynamic part of Denver’s Democratic National Convention next week may occur outside the Pepsi Center. The major protest group Re-create 68 announced its schedule of events yesterday afternoon, and it’s a doozy of a lineup. More than 50 speakers and musicians will round out logistical trainings for the activists.
Peace protester Cindy Sheehan, who set up camp outside George Bush’s Crawford ranch in Texas after her son, Casey, was killed in combat, will speak at 9 a.m. Sunday on the steps of the state Capitol before Re-create 68 marches to the Pepsi Center. And Public Enemy, the political rap group, will play a free concert at 2 p.m. Aug. 26 at Civic Center Park, according to news reports.
But that’s not it. There are several more highlights, including a speech by Green Party presidential candidate Cynthia McKinney and another recorded one by Mumia Abu Jamal, a political prisoner on death row. A complete list of events is available on the Re-Create 68 Web site.
