And Now For Some Good News

Good news on the publicity stunt scheduled for today, when some guy with a name straight out of central casting, representing an outfit called “Revelation Press,” is promising to “Swift Boat” some yet-to-be named presidential candidate in an effort to sell a book written by a yet-to-be named author: Even bloggers seem queasy about the whole thing. On  Dec. 31, I received an e-mail from one Daryl Toor, subject line: “Right for your Blog?”

Toor got right to the point, bragging that a “Major Leading U.S. Presidential Candidate to be ‘Outed’ prior to NH Hampshire Primary — Will Colorado Confidential cover it?”

Response: Wrong for my site.

Since then I’ve gotten no fewer than four more e-mails from this guy Toor, designed, no doubt, to work me, and certainly not just me but undoubtedly BILLIONS and BILLIONS of others into some sort of lathered, fevered anticipation about just WHO in WHICH political party in the name of RELIGION might have done WHAT to some DOG or other SMALL or LARGE MAMMAL when they were TWEAKING on some DISGUSTING and ILLEGAL substance back in COLLEGE or during their super-secret VAMPIRE DAYS or how a STAFFER discovered the candidate drunk HALF-NAKED under his or her CURRENT desk in the United States SENATE.

One of Toor’s increasingly annoying alerts promises this alleged upcoming swift-boating book that he’s promoting — besides what he obviously hopes to make a boatload of money off of — will “tear aside the curtain, just as Toto exposed the Wizard of Oz.” There’s lots more in these long and frequent e-mails about “the inquisition” and “hard and cold facts” — but we’ll spare you the details, which apparently will be unveiled at a press conference today at the National Press Club in Washington. (Even PR Newswire has sent out an alert.)

And here’s where it gets beautiful: A quick search around other blog sites suggests that many others, if they’ve even bothered to write about it, are merely disgusted – at least so far — by this silly stunt. One Web site, ifoundapeanut.blogspot.com, calls the press release “the official entry of the cow pie brigade into the 2008 presidential campaign.”

And even at her Web site, Greta Van Susteren from Fox News says “these people make me sick.”

I have yet to find one blog or news site out there that appears to be waiting in heady anticipation for today’s swift-boating event.

That is news that is good — and news that is right for this site.
