The homeless and hungry at Urban Peak will be sharing breakfast with Colorado’s First Lady Jeannie Ritter for a special Democratic Convention project next Monday.Convention CEO Leah D. Daughtry will join Ritter and other convention volunteers serving a holiday breakfast to the homeless and runaway youth at Urban Peak in Denver from 8:45 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 17.
As a way of a “thank you” to the area hosting the convention, staff and volunteers of the Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) have organized monthly “DNCC Service Day” projects to help youth and the homeless. In October, convention representatives participated in an after-school soccer skills camp with Colorado Rapids players and urban youth from Colorado UpLift.
The DNCC has also hosted events with an environmental theme, such as helping students clean up their playground at the Edna Oliver Montessori Early Learning Center in Denver’s Five Points neighborhood in October.
Founded in 1988, Urban Peak provides shelter and services for homeless and runaway youth to help them become self-reliant adults. Urban Peak is located at 1630 S. Acoma (at Acoma and Iowa Street) in Denver.
