As the host governor of the Democratic National Convention, Gov. Bill Ritter was invited to deliver the national Democratic radio address at 9 a.m. on Saturday. He will be discussing Colorado’s new energy economy, an economic development effort that emphasizes bio-fuels, wind and solar power, and promotes wise and innovative use of fossil fuels.
Ritter is spending time in the Washington D.C. area this weekend mingling with Democratic presidential candidates and members of the Democratic National Committee. After his presentation before the DNC on Friday, Ritter and Colorado’s Host Committee will be sponsoring a special pre-convention social.
The Democratic National Convention is scheduled in Denver Aug. 25-28, 2008.
“I was asked to speak in my capacity as a new governor with new ideas, and as the host governor for the 2008 Democratic National Convention,” Gov. Ritter said in a press release.
“It’s a great honor to give a national address, and I think the can-do spirit we embody here in Colorado speaks to what people around the country want from their leaders and from the next President of the United States,” Ritter said.
According to the governor’s office, his radio address will be available nationwide on major radio networks, including AP, ABC, NPR, CBS Radio, CNN Radio, C-SPAN, Armed Forces Radio Network, American Urban Radio Network, Voice of America Radio Network, BBC Radio, CBC Radio and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
Congressional Representatives John Salazar, Ed Perlmutter and Diana DeGette and Sen. Ken Salazar have also been guests on the Democratic radio program.
