The U.S. House failed to override President Bush’s veto of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program bill this morning.Supporters of the bill that would expand funding for children’s health care fell 13 votes short of overriding Bush’s veto. The Senate already passed the bill with a veto-proof majority. The bill was referred back to the House Ways and Means and Energy and Commerce committees. Colorado Rep. Diana DeGette is the vice chair of the Committee on Energy and Commerce and has been one of the most vocal supporters of SCHIP expansion. Bipartisan supporters of the bill have vowed to pass it again and send it back to President Bush.
