State Senate president wins this heat of the funding race.Joan Fitz-Gerald’s campaign announced that it raised $387,598.02 during the July-to-September fundraising quarter. Fitz-Gerald, president of the state Senate, is one of three candidates for the Democratic nomination to represent the 2nd congressional district.
Her opponents, Jared Polis and Will Shafroth, announced earlier that they had raised $365,000 and $208,000 respectively.
Fitz-Gerald’s total includes nearly $57,000 from donors to EMILY’s List, which endorsed Fitz-Gerald in the race in early August.
Fitz-Gerald got her cash from from 1423 contributors, who averaged contributions of $272.38 each.
In a release, Fitz-Gerald said:
“People all over Colorado are joining our campaign to bring a sense of urgency to Washington to end the War in Iraq and turn our country around. I’m gratified and humbled that so many people reached so deep with the hope of seeing the same kind of change we’ve accomplished here in Colorado brought to Congress.”
The candidates are warehousing their funds for now. Fitz-gerald reports nearly $450,000 cash on hand at the end of the quarter; Shafroth has $425,000. Polis didn’t announce his cash on hand, but he’s raised a total of about $650,000.
