The early political season is not for voters, but for insiders, a trading on reputations, insiders eyeballing the list of other insiders that candidates can bring to bear on their behalf.
Democratic second congressional district campaigns of both Joan Fitz-Gerald and Jared Polis fired off a couple of rounds in this battle this week.
Attempting to shore up one of her weaker constituencies in the city of Boulder, Joan Fitz-Gerald announced a list of Boulderites who are supporting her candidacy for Congress. Jared Polis likewise reported two endorsements that should help his candidacy in the eyes of women’s groups.
Fitz-Gerald’s announced the support of House Majority Leader Alice Madden and former State Sen. Dorothy Rupert along with a long list of other prominent Boulderites.Polis got the endorsement of of Colorado’s best known female office holder, former U.S. Rep. Pat Schroeder, along with former U.S. Senate candidate and Boulder County Commissioner Josie Heath. Schroeder praised Polis as “a proven champion of women’s causes,” including abortion rights and gender equity in health care.
Rep. Alice Madden said of Fitz-Gerald, “Joan will use her experience as State Senate President, fight for our nation’s health care crisis, promote renewable energy and work to get this country under control.”
