The Daily Times-Call (web page not udpated yet) is reporting that state Sen. Brandon Shaffer will not seek the democratic nomination for the 4th congressional district and will instead focus on his re-election campaign.Shaffer, in the midst of his first term in Senate District 17 representing the Longmont area, told John Fyrar:
I was humbled by the encouragement I received from people both within and outside the district who urged me to run for Congress, the Longmont lawmaker said in a statement.
The support has been tremendous, but I feel I can have a greater positive effect if I stay in the state Senate,” Shaffer added.
Thus far, the crowded democratic field includes former Larimer County Democratic Party chair Betsy Markey, former state Representative Angie Paccione, and Eric Eidsness, a former EPA administrator who recently changed his party affiliation after a fling with the Reform Party candidate when he was rebuffed from running as a republican last year.
Both Paccione and Eidsness ran in the 2006 election against incumbent Rep. Marilyn Musgrave.
