Boulder environmentalist Will Shafroth, 49, has made it official: He’s a candidate for the Democratic nomination for the District 2 congressional seat being vacated by incumbent Mark Udall.
Shafroth filed papers on May 2nd with the Federal Election Commission to form the Shafroth for Congress Committee.
Shafroth’s only announced opponent, and the heavy favorite in the race, is State Senator Joan Fitz-Gerald. Activist Jared Polis is also considered a potential candidate.In a release, Shafroth said, “I will be a strong and creative voice for the Second Congressional District on the many challenges facing our country including ending the war in Iraq, providing affordable health care, reducing global warming, and improving our education system. The Second Congressional District has been a national leader on these and other issues facing our country and I look forward to bringing our successes to the national stage.
“I have devoted my life to public service and improving the quality of life for Coloradans,” he continued. “From helping to conserve more than 300,000 acres of unique environmental treasures in Colorado to working to improve our schools, I have joined with diverse groups of people to solve problems and achieve common goals.”
