Speaking to a Demoratic meeting over the weekend, Rep. Terrance Carroll (D-Denver) commented that Attorney General John Suthers (R) would soon have to answer questions about his political coordination with Republican party officials and legislators.
Carroll likened the upcoming hearings to those in Washington that U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales endured. One of the issues Carroll promises the legislature would look into is why the Attorney General released a memo outlining his legal opinion regarding the constitutionality of Gov. Ritter’s property tax freeze.
According to Carroll, Suthers released the memo to legislative Republicans weeks before giving it to members of the Democratic majority.
The latest word from Carroll is that hearing have yet to be scheduled. In the meantime, the group ProgressNowAction has taken up the issue, and initiated a petition calling for an investigation of Colorado’s Attorney General.
ColoradoConfidential will continue to provide more details as they become available.
