Gov. Ritter flew into the Rifle airport late Saturday afternoon as part of his inaugural celebration and announced that Russell George, former director of the Department of Natural Resources, has accepted the position as director of the Colorado Department of Transportation.
George, a native and current resident of Rifle, is the first person from the Western Slope to be selected to serve on Ritter’s cabinet.
“I wouldn’t take “no” as an answer,” Ritter told the audience, “I kept reminding Russell he is a public servant and Colorado needed him in this position.” Ritter noted that Russell George finally gave in on Friday and accepted the directorship.
George said that he will help Colorado find ways to bring transportation into the 21st Century.
The governor also mentioned that a blue ribbon panel and a series of transportation summits will be planned to prioritize needs and identify financial resources for CDOT.
