50,000 Watts: Hater of the Year Award

It’s time to bathe Colorado right wing radio talk show hosts in a sunlight-filled disinfecting tub to scrub away the most profane, intellectually-stunted, and ludicrous statements made this year.

Let me introduce you to our lovely contestants. Dan Caplis, KHOW 630-AM
Caplis comes completely unhinged when referring to an open letter to the American public penned by Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

During the November 29 broadcast:

CAPLIS: Craig, I have to tell you, my take on this letter is that what this guy’s saying is, “Hey, if you want peace, you have to abandon Israel.” I think he’s making that real clear in the letter. Because you’ll read headlines about Iraq this, Iraq that. Hey, you actually sit down and read this puppy, what you’re gonna see is, it is about Israel. It is about, give up your support of Israel if you want us to stop killing you. That’s, that’s what this is about. And then the second part of it is a loud-and-clear message to the Democrats: “Hey, we gave you this election, so you better come through for us or we’re gonna make you pay; you lose the next one.” And that’s one thing that really strikes me when you read this. It doesn’t surprise me, ’cause I’ve been saying for a long time, these guys are trying to influence our elections through what they’re doing, including stepping up the killing in Iraq. And I think this just confirms it. I mean, you know, Howard Dean could have written much of this letter. And just the direct reference to our elections, and, and — and the jargon that you’ve heard coming out of Dean. But, but the point blank — and even CNN has referenced it — you know, the point-blank warning to the Democrats: “Hey, if you don’t step up and do the right thing with this power now, we’re taking you down next.” I mean, this — crystal clear what this guy is doing.

Gunny Bob Newman, Newsradio 850 KOA
Newman demonstrates an irrational fear of a tiny 66-year-old grandmother with this hate-filled monologue.

During the October 30 broadcast, we get this gem:

NEWMAN: Many of those who have closely studied Nancy Pelosi believe she will attempt to arrange the following things, or get the following things done: Remove all forces from Iraq, via an immediate retreat and surrender to Al Qaeda in Iraq. Reduce spending for the military and intelligence services. Increase spending on social-engineering programs; you can pretty much count on that. Legalize gay marriage and polygamy. Award amnesty to illegal aliens. Make illegal aliens eligible for federal tuition assistance. Make illegal aliens eligible for Social Security. Make illegal aliens eligible for federal welfare programs. Substantially reduce funds for border security. Repeal the Patriot Act. Substantially reduce aid and assistance to Israel. Terminate most surveillance of suspected terrorists. Work toward a massive tax increase to pay for liberal entitlement programs. Attempt to dramatically restrict Second Amendment rights. Deny parents the right to be informed of, and make decisions on, their juvenile daughters’ medical health by authorizing juveniles to get secret abortions without parental notification or approval. Attack First Amendment rights of great importance, especially to Christians. Cut off nearly all funds for the war on drugs. Negotiate with terrorist groups, including Al Qaeda and Hezbollah.

That’s just for starters what Nancy Pelosi wants to do. However, her goals and those of her fellow radicals will likely be prevented until at least January 2009 — but you never know. When George Bush leaves office and the next president comes in. And by the way, if that’s Hillary, and if the extremist liberals seize control of the House and Senate between now and then, we could easily see the vast majority and possibly all of these goals come to pass.

Peter Boyles, KHOW 630-AM
Boyles proves once again that peddling in uninformed, xenophobic drivel only serves to make one look really dumb.

From his November 9 show:

BOYLES: I don’t think that there’s friendly Muslim nations out there by any stretch of the imagination…

Hey, Pete! How about Jordan and Indonesia and Malaysia and Turkey and the United Arab Emirates and Senegal and Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kuwait and Morocco and Qatar and Saudia Arabia and Egypt and Bahrain and Pakistan.

Yeeaaarrrggghhh!

Mike Rosen, Newsradio 850 KOA
Rosen falls victim to a whole other definition of “judicial activism”.

From Rosen’s November 20 broadcast:

ROSEN: When I, when I hear Justice O’Connor — and this was a reference that Judge Pickering made in that piece I mentioned from The Wall Street Journal — he said, and he’s quoting now from Justice O’Connor, quote, “We will rely increasingly on international and foreign law in resolving what now appear to be domestic issues.” She called reliance on foreign law  “transjudicialism” and proclaimed that reliance on foreign law “will create that all-important good impression” — I guess on our, our friends and neighbors overseas. I think that’s a classic example of judicial activism; I don’t think foreign law is in any way, shape, or form material in a Supreme Court decision.

For the moment, let’s just put aside Rosen’s preposterous claim that U.S. law exists in its own hermetically-sealed vacuum sans “taint” from international law. The bigger issue with this whopper of a claim is endemic of right wing talk radio — a lack of factual basis.

Jon Caldara, Newsradio 850 KOA
Back in the day, when I was in elementary school, if you answered the teacher’s question incorrectly you got a swift smack on the back of your head.
Jon Caldara? Get yourself some headgear.

During his November 28 show, Caldara throws a spitball:

CALDARA: We forget what it was like under the Carter years. We forget double-digit unemployment rates — 13 percent. There is no high unemployment rate. It — what Rangel is trying to tell us is that the people who are going into the military are somehow victims and that they don’t have other choices. I, I hope you’re not silly enough to buy into that.

Whack!

The truth: the unemployment rate during President Carter’s term was never higher than 7.1 percent.

Smack!

The truth: the unemployment rates were significantly higher under President Ford (1975 — 8.5%) and President Reagan (1982 — 9.6%).

Crack!
