Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains and its affiliates will offer free Plan B emergency contraception (EC) on Wednesday, Dec. 6th for men and women over 18 years old. Planned Parenthood recommends EC, which is now available without a prescription, as a back up for birth control in case a condom breaks or for when couples engage in unprotected sex. In a recent press release, PPRM president Vicki Cowart said:
Every woman deserves every chance to prevent unintended pregnancy. As a trusted health care provider, Planned Parenthood wants women and couples to know about emergency contraception and all their contraceptive options. We hope that Free EC Day will encourage people to think about preventing unintended pregnancies and to come to Planned Parenthood on Dec. 6 to get EC, just in case.
Studies have shown that women do not use EC as a regular method of birth control nor does it increase or encourage sexual activity among teens. The sooner a woman takes EC, up to 120 hours after unprotected intercourse, the better it lowers the risk of a pregnancy. For the Planned Parenthood nearest you call 1.800.230.PLAN.
