Media coverage of the 7th CD Democratic primary race got weirder over the weekend, as the Rocky Mountain News reported that underdog Herb Rubenstein had “all but bowed out of the race,” much to the surprise of Herb Rubenstein. If their quote from Mr. Rubenstein is accurate, however, it is hard to blame them:
Whoever wins this race, and obviously it’s not going to be me, is going to have to come to me to help try and mend fences.”
One of the unwritten rules of campaigning is to always claim you are going to win, no matter how absurd that possibility actually seems, until all votes have been cast and there is no possibility of a recount.
