It’s been more than a month since Ted Haggard was in the news, but the fallen pastor is back, thanks to filmmaker Alexandra Pelosi and HBO. Apparently on Jan. 29, they are going to show us what it was like being Haggard post-scandal, when the founder of the New Life Church was moving from houses to motels during the period after he was brought down in a gay sex and meth scandal.
According to reports, Haggard agreed to take part in publicity for the project, “The Trials of Ted Haggard,” which is directed by Pelosi.
“We look forward to presenting the film, Ted Haggard, and his family at a press tour in Los Angeles next month,” said a spokeswoman for the cable network.
Pelosi, the daughter of U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, first hooked up with Haggard when she was filming a documentary, “Friends of God,” about Christian evangelicals in 2006 — before Haggard’s trysts with gay escort Mike Jones forced him out of the church that he had founded. (In February Haggard announced he is completely “recovered” from being gay.)
In one particularly tittilating exchange captured on film in “Friends of God,” Haggard talked about having the best sex ever.
“You know all the surveys say that evangelicals have the best sex life of any other group,” Haggard says on camera, grinning from ear to ear.
Haggard then asks a church guy next to him how often he has sex with his wife. The man replies, “Every day.” Pastor Ted goes on to note that evangelicals have a lot of love. “You don’t think these babies come out of nowhere?”
The latest Pelosi-on-Haggard flick is set to air Jan. 29.
