Planned Parenthood celebrates the 95th anniversary of its founding this week amid a barrage of political attacks, ranging from a full-on congressional investigation to a proposed federal budget that would defund the chain of women’s clinics.
An attorney for the group partially responsible for a recent congressional investigation into Planned Parenthood says the group has targeted the chain of health clinics as part of a strategy to end abortion.
The House voted today to block federal funding to Planned Parenthood, passing 240 to 185. There are 23 Planned Parenthood facilities in Colorado.
Colorado U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Thursday that the series of Republican anti-abortion bills introduced in the House this month presents pro-choice lawmakers with an opportunity to shed light on the motivations driving such bills. They said that, given the facts, the mainstream American public and complacent lawmakers will not only rally against these specific bills but also more readily stand guard against similar future efforts to cut back on women’s rights.
