Udall calls out GOP for caving to Tea Party: ‘I have never been more frustrated’

By | 08.18.11 | 2:55 pm

U.S. Sen. Mark Udall, a Colorado Democrat long known for his moderate views and willingness to reach across the aisle (sometimes to the chagrin of the state’s liberal base), has apparently had enough of the unbending rigidity of the Republican Party in Washington these days. In an email today to supporters, Udall called out the Tea Party and members of the GOP who are caving into its no-compromise agenda.

In long run-up to 2012, Gardner draws heat for anti-environmental record

By | 08.17.11 | 7:25 am

Freshman Republican Congressman Cory Gardner weathered a drawn out if ultimately not-close Tea Party caucus battle last year and rode the Republican wave to victory over Democrat Betsy Markey.* Less than a year later, he’s again navigating the increasingly rocky electoral waters of Colorado’s sprawling Fourth District.

Tea party gets boost from straw poll results, but takeover isn’t imminent

By | 08.16.11 | 4:44 pm

When Reps. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) and Ron Paul (R-Texas) took first and second, respectively, at Saturday’s Ames Straw Poll, they weren’t the only victors; Iowa’s tea party movement, and particularly social and religious conservatives within the movement, mobilized to bring their voices on issues to the forefront.

Poll: Colorado hearts Hickenlooper

By | 08.12.11 | 9:12 am

John Hickenlooper is an officeholder and a politician and yet he is well liked among the public. According to a survey conducted by Public Policy Polling last weekend, Colorado’s Democratic governor garners a 54 percent approval rating and only a 24 percent disapproval rating, a remarkable 30 point spread. Democrats love him, independents love him and Republicans think he’s OK. In other words, Hickenlooper is an odd fish, the Greenback Cutthroat Trout of 2011 U.S. politics, a compellingly strange-looking and endangered species.

McCain heckled by Dan Maes-style anti-UN Tea Partiers

By | 08.09.11 | 3:29 pm

It’s angry Tea Party town hall month in America and, in Arizona yesterday, Senator John McCain got a taste of the kind of crazy that colored Colorado’s gubernatorial race last year. The longtime public servant and one-time GOP presidential nominee was called out of touch by town hall Tea Partiers who were shocked McCain didn’t know about “Agenda 21,” an alleged United Nations plan that would see a world government take over the United States by wresting control of its farms.

Poll: Swing-state Colorado voters hate debt deal, most blame GOP Congress

By | 08.09.11 | 2:33 pm

Today brings deficit-deal hangover poll data. Public Policy Polling surveyed voters this past weekend in Colorado and North Carolina and found that they overwhelmingly think the tragic bargain was a bad move for the country’s struggling economy and will fail to successfully address the deficit. PPP reports a glimmer of good news for President Obama amid the wreckage. Polsters found that more of those few people who support the deal give credit to Obama and more of the many detractors blame Republican members of Congress.

Debt ceiling standoff, Next Media Animation version

By | 07.15.11 | 9:30 am

Next Media Animation has given the debt ceiling debate in Washington its signature treatment. The choppy digital short has Uncle Sam shopping and handing over his credit card to a giant Chinese panda register clerk wearing a People’s Republic happy proletariat cap. Turns out Next Media writers don’t know that the ironic U.S. “liberal” media only covers topics excessively that it does not take seriously. That’s why the debt ceiling posturing is this year’s biggest political story and that’s why the Tea Party was last year’s biggest story. So Next Media can’t be blamed for inserting this in the video voice-over: “Most Americans agree with Republicans that the debt ceiling should not be raised.” Holy biased animated media! Where’s the polling on that assertion, Hong Kong?

Colorado clergy join in calling for a federal budget fair to the poor

By | 07.14.11 | 9:48 am

Prominent Christian pastors in the United States who have dedicated themselves to serving the poor and most vulnerable citizens don’t believe in trickle-down economics and they don’t believe the problem of poverty should be left for churches to address. More than 4,000 of those pastors signed an open letter to that effect addressed to President Obama and the members of Congress, urging them as they hammer out a federal budget not to make poor and hungry Americans bear the burden of reducing the nation’s deficit. More than 95 pastors and clergy members in Colorado signed the letter, which appeared in Politico Wednesday.

Video: Palin campaign movie coming to Highlands Ranch

By | 07.08.11 | 7:32 am

Sarah Palin’s movie is airing in select Tea Party friendly locations around the country this week– eight locations so far, including Highlands Ranch, Colorado, where it’s showing Friday evening. Palin asked conservative filmmaker Stephen Bannon to make the film, apparently as message vehicle for a 2012 presidential run. The title is “Undefeated,” which will leave some critics scratching their heads. Palin’s most high-profile political campaign– her 2008 vice presidential bid– ended in resounding defeat.

Video: Tea Party movie all about American exceptionalism but paced like The Sopranos

By | 06.24.11 | 11:59 am

“The justice of man is rot,” which is why the Tea Party has swerved clear of traditional left-wing Hollywood and made its own contribution to the pop-culture U.S. history canon. Courage, New Hampshire, is a one-hour drama made by Tea Partiers for Tea Partiers that shines out with Christian faith and American exceptionalism and the unfettered right to bear muskets. After debuting Sunday in Monrovia, California, it heads straight to DVD.
