The Denver Post has endorsed Republican candidate Lauri Clapp for a contested state senate seat located in the southern suburbs of Denver, despite the fact that the daily has had apparent qualms with the candidate in the past—reservations that motivated the paper to endorse three of Clapp’s legislative challengers in the last ten years.

Years ago I remember seeing yardsigns for Monday’s Colorado Independent cover girl Lauri Clapp, who represents a district right near where I grew up. This fire-brand of the far-right accomplished little in the House — who knows what she’ll do in the Senate should she win in November against her Democratic opponent Linda Newell.

The Western Skies Coalition, a conservative Virginia corporation with an office in Littleton, is allegedly being used by state Sen. Josh Penry (R-Fruita) to raise funds from oil and gas companies in a bid target several key Colorado state Senate races and win back a Republican majority in 2010, according to several sources.
