Republicans like Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown apparently prefer the drill-baby-drill consequences of offshore drilling, where 42,000 gallons of oil a day are currently oozing toward Gulf Coast beaches, to the alleged blight of offshore wind farms.

President Obama, speaking at Andrews Air Force Base, just announced his decision to expand the country’s offshore drilling for oil. But his speech sounded mostly like an apology to environmentalists for the move.
Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar Tuesday came out swinging at the “foot-dragging” of the Bush administration on offshore renewable energy in favor of a “drill, drill, drill” mentality that put a premium on oil and gas exploration.
I was almost relieved to see this report by the Center for Economic and Policy Research. I have been puzzling over why the public seems so sure that offshore drilling will lower gas prices.
