This is a suedo-accurate statement. The Taft-Hartley act was a "compromise", allowing unions to, without permission from the employee, withdraw union dues from any employee's paycheck without their consent. And, unless they join, deny them voting rights on contractrual issues. However, it did deny unions from requiring empoyees to join. Of course, the union thugs & big wigs, who are all the equivlencies of corporate slime balls, have their ways of coercing or tricking the naive into joining. BTW, I am not a Repub or Dem...I am a Lib.

" ... making it illegal for labor unions to negotiate agreements that collect dues or agency fees from nonmember employees who receive union-negotiated benefits in the workplace. "

Why should nonmember employees be able to receive Union-negotiated benefits? If they dislike the Union so much, they should turn away from the wages also.

Bottom line: Seems like the non-union are greedy. Want something for nothing. Want to have their cake and eat it too.

Who is writing these editorials? No one has even noted that the original piece also confuses "at will" with unions and paying dues. "At will" has nothing to do with union membership, it has become an almost universal employment clause that allows employers a chance to terminate anyone at anytime without giving a reason.

Anyone who writes editorials for any newspaper should actually know something about the issues they are addressing but that is clearly not the case at this paper.

Why should we expect anything better from a "news"paper that has a biased editorial policy and that worked very hard to run its daily news competition out of town several years ago. Colorado Springs no longer can choose between the CS Sun/Free Press as it used to be able to do. Thank heavens for the CS Independent, a weekly publication, to bring to light the alternative points of view, and for online reporting such as the Colorado Independent.

Keep up the accurate and non-biased reporting.

Moreover, even reporters get it wrong, not just slanted editorial boards like the Gazette's (which makes a certain amount of sense given that they are in the business of propaganda). But reporters?! Andy Vuong of the Post is the worst. He consistently claims that Prop 47 would ban compulsory union membership. Ain't true, but he keeps saying it.

Every time they repeat this lie, we should contact them and complain. Or write a letter to the editor. If they get enough flack they may actually pay attention and start reporting on this misguided amendment accurately.

SquareState has a post up on Andy's poor reporting with ways to contact him.

The right has consistently been repeating false "facts" about the so-called "right-to-work" proposal and have been very good at getting them in the major papers, too. It's like they're all reading from the same talking points. Thank you to the Colorado Independent for being, well, independent and doing that old journalistic thing called fact-checking. You seem to be the only ones not regurgitating press releases.
