All faiths have experienced violence recently...mosques have taken security precautions, synagogues have security policies in place, and churches are beginning to think about it seriously. What should a church do when a madman busts in and sprays gasoline on people and ignites it? What should the people do when they are being shot? Is it ok for any person of any faith to be killed because of their belief system or because someone is seeking an easy target for a seek and destroy mission?

The Church Security Alliance wasn't started to teach people how to be violent, it was started to help people find answers to how to respond to violence, minimize loss of life, and protect people who are trusting, loving, and forgiving. Churches have been targeted for violence against children, arson, burglary, vandalism, and murder worldwide. What is the author's point? What would she do if someone were shooting at her family? I would be willing to bet she would hope there would be somebody trained in the use of a weapon to stop violent aggression. It has taken an ultra violent event like the shootings in Colorado Springs, CO to get churches to even consider safety planning. The Church Security Alliance exists to help those involved in risk analysis to plan for the unthinkable, as well as other safety issues within the church, like how to protect kids against child abusers.

I agree with the police officer's analysis, it is a good idea the local police department knows who is carrying a gun, but most states do not allow guns in religious worship centers without permission.
