Yes I am aware that America and the United States should not be considered to be synonyms. I'm not always careful enough and in the 'heat of battle' may use America when I should more properly sat United States.

I am guilty of being one among millions that has not become at least conversationally literate in either French of Spanish. I have made attempts to learn both have not been successful.

Thank you for a productive discussion.

You bring up excellents points. I appologize for missing the sarcasm. It is difficult to read that in text sometimes. However, I do appreciate your response and clarification...

Yes, Spanish is a European Language, however, it also represents a moment of brutal colonization as well. I must also dare to add that "Indigenous" or Natives of this land should apply to anyone who can trace their ancestors back to this continent: North America. BTW: I assume you are aware that America is not the same as saying the United States.

Yeah... it's true. "La Raza" is a loose term for those who are marginalized as "Latin" or "Hispanic." But not all embrace the term. I am want to say that it is a term that is also complex and suggests an essential political consciousness or activism against those who have brutalized "La Raza" in the name of racial, social, or political superiority.

Isn't it odd that despite the fact that the US shares 2 Borders with French and Spanish Languages, the average US American may only know one language: English. Moreover, most of these people speak and/or write poor English.

Your response illustrates my point precisely. If law enforcement can not adequately warn the public about potential criminals or criminal activity(ies) because someone's feelings might be hurt we can only anticipate total anarchy. My reference to 90 year old seniors was sarcasm.

Do you know how many people do not speak Spanish? Did you know Illinois is based on an Indian name? Why do I ask? It has as much relevance to the story and discussion as that fact that Colorado may be a Spanish word.

If you want to eliminate all terms and words that have racial connotations from public discussion can we eliminate terms such as La Raza. Isn't thsi a Spanish term that means 'the race'?
