Representative Markey indicated that she supports prevention and wellness and wants to deal with the conflict of interest of big companies that make money when people are sick. This administration however, just cut abstinence education funding when in our country 1 of 4 adolescent girls has an STD and teen child bearing costs this country 9.1 billion according to a 2006 report to the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy. Abstinence education was cut because of Planned Parenthood rhetoric funded by this huge corporation that makes money when kids are sexually active and having abortions. They don't want to prevent the problem as they lose money when teens don't have sex. Abstinence programs do have data supporting their effectiveness, yet the administration cut the program because many in congress receive funding from Planned Parenthood's PACs. President Obama, Representative Markey and Senator Udall all took money from Planned Parenthood. If we believe in primary prevention this type of conflict of interest must stop— Quit talking out of both side of your mouth and stand up to companies that make money when people are sick and do some real prevention.
