The question is, how does the woman justify exerting her own will over this new person as if she is property (such as happened under slavery)?  Will she then become the overseer, with an assumed right to punish or kill her property?

Babies are not property, to do with as the mother pleases. Babies are human beings, with the same rights as you and me.

That's what the Personhood issue is about.  Blacks in the American south were “granted” Personhood by the Constitution (actually, it just recognized, for the first time, the Humanity of the Black man and woman, and thereby extended the Constitutionally guaranteed protection of those human rights in practice, not just in theory).  That's why slavery is not allowed, and why no state has the “right” to legislate to allow slavery today.

A Human Life begins at fertilization, when 23 chromosomes from Mom and 23 chromosomes from Dad combine to create a new life with 46 chromosomes who is a genetically distinct Person.

The Personhood Amendment would, like with slavery, extend recognition to a right which the Constitution already guarantees (Right to Life, Liberty…) to this unique Person who has just been created and “endowed by our Creator”.
