HD-13 In Summary

House District 13 will be a primary between two Democrats. And, without a Republican challenger in the race, the winner will be the new state representative come November.

Here are some quick facts about the race, the candidates, and the district.

• HD-13 is located in West Boulder and stretches down south, encompassing Nederland, Ward, and Blackhawk, among others.
• The candidates are Jim Rettew, who was previously with the Boulder Transportation Advisory Board, and Claire Levy, who has a background in law.
• They are vying for Rep. Tom Plant’s old seat. Plant is term limited.

• Levy won 71% of the vote at the Democratic assembly in Nederland, and Rettew was petitioned on the ballot.
• According to most recent Secretary of State records, as of July 26th, Rettew has $1,601.29 in funds and Levy has $5,465.87.
• The district has nearly double the amount of registered Democrats to registered Republicans, and unaffiliated registrations are slightly higher than registered Democrats.
• Rettew has been endorsed by various public figures, including former Colorado Democratic Chair Chris Gates, Boulder County Sheriff Joe Pelle, and members of the Boulder City Council.
• Levy has been endorsed by the Longmont Daily Times-Call, the Service Employees International Union, and other Boulder City Council members.
